With a college degree in education, Kate spent half a decade of her early adult life teaching Fourth Grade at a school in North Charleston. During this time, Kate’s journey with yoga began as her time on the mat became a go-to for stress release – a way to regroup and truly focus on herself. After 5 years of teaching, she moved on to become a mom to three wonderful children, using yoga during each pregnancy as a way to witness the miracle of life growing within.
Years later and three kids deep, Kate started teaching fitness classes at a local gym as an alternative to always wearing the “Momma Hat”. Yoga continued to be a major part of her life – now as a way not only to relieve stress, but as a way to sooth sore and tired muscles. This is when Kate first started considering becoming a Yoga Teacher, but she was adamant that she find the right program to get her 200-hour Certification.
Not having ever practiced at Gaea, Kate relied on her instinct and enrolled in Gaea’s teaching training program. For her, it was a match made in heaven. Kate graduated from the Gaea teacher training program in March 2014 with a new-found appreciation for anatomy and the function of yoga. She is now pursuing her 500-hour certification through the Gaea Yoga School. Kate truly believes that if you take the time to listen to your body, your yoga will transform you.
In October of 2015, she had the privilege of experiencing the illuminating Papa Erich Schiffmann first-hand and fell in love with his teachings. She has since become dedicated – alongside Kate and Legare – to keeping Freedom Style or free-form yoga alive and vibrant on the schedule at Gaea.
When not teaching fitness and yoga classes, Kate loves to be near the water, working in her garden, and taking care of her chickens. She also has a passion for paddle board yoga and became a Yoga Alliance Certified Paddle Board Yoga Instructor in August of 2014. Most of all though, Kate loves to just chill on the beach with her family.
Kate has had a passion for serving others since she can remember. The idea that she can teach something she loves, embark on a journey deeper within herself, and be of service to others all in the same breath has been a dream come true for her.
